Our children are at the heart of everything we do at Little Paxton. Our motto at Little Paxton Primary School is ‘Our best, always’. We strive to be a school where all members of our community can think, are respectful and can learn. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

We have an exciting new position which will give the right candidate the opportunity to work across the whole school. We are looking for someone with the following qualities enthusiasm, flexibility and pro-active approach. We are committed to bring out the best in all children, whatever their level of achievement and are looking for someone who shares this vision. We are looking for a team player who has a love of reading and a desire to inspire children to find the same passion for books.

The role is varied and will be a combination of specific daily duties, projects and tasks being allocated as the need arises. We have recently relocated our school library and introduced the Accelerated Reader scheme. Our new library needs to be organised so that the children can easily find the right thing to read at the right level, this will include creating a catalogue of books and banding them according to the scheme. We would like our library co-ordinator to create and run a borrowing system, run lunch time book clubs and work with the English Leads to promote reading for pleasure across the school. This is a great opportunity for someone to show their creativity by making the library attractive including regularly updating displays.

We would also love for you to be able to incorporate something of your passion into the role so you may have an idea for a specific project which you would like to propose to implement.

 Essential Skills

This role is perfect for someone who wants to share their passion for books and reading.

GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or above) and a knowledge of basic ICT are essential. Ideally you will have had some previous experience of working or volunteering with children.

We are looking for someone who is able to work independently, who can communicate information clearly, listens well and is not afraid to ask for clarification if required. The role involves working with all members of staff throughout the school so we are looking for someone who is confident in working with lots of different people, is a team player and is willing to learn. They should also be able to both follow instructions and to act on their own initiative, be proactive and think ahead.

Little Paxton Primary School is firmly committed to the principles of equality and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

The offer of employment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including the right to work in the UK, Disclosure and Barring Service and two satisfactory references.
