Autumn Term Information

Welcome to Year One, we really look forward to welcoming your children back to school and beginning the next part of their learning journey.

In Autumn Term we will be building on the skills that the children have learnt in foundation by incorporating some continuous provision style learning alongside a more formal way of learning.

Our English learning will be focused around the theme of London, we will be developing the children’s sentence skills and building up the skills to do a big write focussing on a recount. We will also be introducing our big topic question ‘Was the Great Fire of London really great?’ where children will learn about the history of the Great Fire of London and also geographical elements connected to London and the United Kingdom

In maths we will begin to look at place value up to and including the number 20. Children will be using manipulatives and working practically to gain secure knowledge which will have a positive impact on future learning and applying their skills to problem solving and reasoning type questions.
