RE

“Religions are different roads converging to the same point. What does it matter that we take different roads as long as we reach the same goal? In reality, there are as many different religions as there are individuals” Mahatma Gandhi

“Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you.” Mother Teresa

“Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good.” Buddha

oUR purpose of study for RE

Religious Education provokes challenging questions about the meaning and purpose of life, different religons’ beliefs, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. Our children learn about and from religions to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions. They learn to weigh up the value of wisdom from different sources, to develop and express their thoughts, and to agree or disagree respectfully.

oUR Curriculum Aims

We recognise that our children come from families that hold to a range of different belief systems, faiths and world views. We aim to encourage opportunities to talk about these and for the children to share their own experiences, celebrations and beliefs with others in their class. We aim to find out about other religions and belief systems so that we can all learn to be more respectful, tolerant and kind.

oUR Curiculum Content

At Little Paxton we have worked with the Local Authority to rewrite our RE curriculum. We have made sure that it continues to follow the local syllabus set by Cambridgeshire but also fits best with our own school intake and local community.

As the children progress through the school they will develop their understanding of the main world religions as well as Humanism. This will be taught in a range of ways, including through art, stories, drama and debate, to make it engaging and age appropriate.
