edit & improve

At Little Paxton our writing teaching develops pupils’ competence in these two skills. In addition, pupils should be taught how to plan, revise and evaluate their writing. These aspects of writing have been incorporated into the programmes of study for composition.

Early Writing

Our EYFS unit provides a text rich environment where children are encouraged to make marks (emergent writing) and move onto writing whole words and then sentences. There are writing stations in the indoor and outdoor environment which the children love to use.

Writing in KS1 & KS2

Across KS1 and KS2, the children are taught writing as part of a journey. We use high quality texts as the stimulus for a wide range of genres. Children are taught about the structure and organisation of texts as well as genre specific language and sentence types. They will have the opportunity to use high quality and engaging models of writing to help them plan their own writing. Time is also dedicated to the important task of editing and redrafting their ideas, as modelled by real authors.
