On a crisp and competitive afternoon, a group of enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 students from Little Paxton Primary School traveled to St Ives to take part in the annual Quicksticks Hockey Tournament, hosted by the Hunts School Sports Partnership. Schools from across Huntingdonshire gathered to showcase their hockey skills in a fun and challenging environment.

The Little Paxton team took to the pitch for their first game against Holywell Primary School. It was a hard-fought battle, with both teams displaying strong defensive skills. For the majority of the match, neither side was able to break the deadlock, but in the final moments, Holywell struck three quick goals to take the win.

Next up was a tense encounter against Crosshall Junior School. Little Paxton created numerous opportunities and came agonizingly close to scoring on several occasions. However, in the dying moments of the match, Crosshall managed to find the net, securing a narrow 1-0 victory.

The final pool game saw Little Paxton face Warboys Primary School. Both teams had their fair share of attacking play, with Teddy going close to scoring for Little Paxton. Despite the strong effort, Warboys capitalized on their chances, scoring twice to end the game 2-0.

Determined to finish on a high, Little Paxton played their final match in the placing section against Winhills Primary School. From the outset, the team showed great energy and teamwork. Thomas and Oliver both found the net early, giving Little Paxton a strong advantage. Outstanding goalkeeping from Poppy and Tallulah ensured that Winhills were kept at bay. A fantastic breakaway goal from Harry extended the lead to 3-0. Despite a late goal from Winhills, Little Paxton held on to secure a well-earned 3-1 victory.

Overall, it was a fantastic tournament filled with excitement, teamwork, and plenty of learning opportunities. The entire team—Amelia, Tallulah, Poppy, Isaac, Oliver, Harry, Thomas, and Teddy—should be incredibly proud of their effort and sportsmanship. Well done, Little Paxton!
