Alice Dodd’s three stunning penalty saves secured the Little Paxton Panthers a place in the final of the Henson Cup.

In a tense semi-final against Bushmead Primary School, the Panthers started strong, creating numerous chances through the skillful play of Mimi, Paige, and Rosa. Midway through the first half, Penny broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot, giving the Panthers the lead. She struck again minutes later, slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 at halftime.

The second half saw Bushmead come out aggressively, and their relentless pressure was rewarded with a goal from inside the box that beat Alice at the near post. The Panthers dug deep to maintain their lead, but with just a minute left, Bushmead equalized with a spectacular shot into the top corner. Despite a last-second effort from Little Paxton, the game ended 2-2, leading to a nail-biting penalty shootout.

Bushmead took the first penalty, which was spectacularly saved by Alice. Unfortunately, the Panthers’ first attempt went over the bar. Alice continued her heroics with another save on Bushmead’s second penalty. Isla stepped up confidently to score the Panthers’ next penalty. Both teams converted their next penalties, making it 2-1 to the Panthers.

Alice’s third save brought the Panthers to the brink of victory, needing just one more goal to secure their place in the final. Paige’s attempt sailed over the bar, giving Bushmead a chance to stay in the game, but luck favored Little Paxton as Bushmead’s final penalty missed the target.

With this thrilling win, the Little Paxton Panthers are now finalists in the Henson Cup. Congratulations to all the girls for their incredible performance!
