Little Paxton’s journey in the YDP Cambridge Cup began with a strong performance in the group stages but ultimately ended in heartbreak as they were eliminated in the knockout rounds by Westfield Primary School.
The first group game saw Little Paxton take on Bushmead Primary School, and they got off to a flying start. Ethan stole the show with a quickfire hat-trick, showcasing his clinical finishing. As the game neared its end, Aubin and Mohale added two late goals to complete a resounding 5-0 victory.
In their second game, Little Paxton took an early lead against Alconbury Primary School thanks to a stunning long-range strike from Aubin. They looked set to secure another win, but in the dying moments, Alconbury found an equaliser, forcing a 1-1 draw.
The final group stage match was against Earith Primary School. Little Paxton dominated from start to finish, creating numerous chances but failing to convert. Their missed opportunities proved costly when, with less than ten seconds remaining, Earith snatched a dramatic winner from a long throw-in. The 1-0 defeat left Little Paxton in third place in the group, but they still narrowly qualified for the knockout rounds.
In the first knockout game, Little Paxton faced Westfield Primary School. They controlled possession and created the better chances but were caught on the break, conceding an unfortunate own goal. Despite relentless attacking in search of an equaliser, they couldn’t find a breakthrough, and the game ended 1-0 in Westfield’s favour.
Though their YDP Cambridge Cup campaign ended in disappointment, Little Paxton’s spirited performances demonstrated their potential, and they will be looking to bounce back in future competitions.
